Video Game Testing – Become A Video Game Tester In 5 Simple Steps

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Step One: Be Proactive!

You won’t land any video game tester jobs if you just sit around and wait for a “Game Testers Wanted” ad to appear in the paper. It won’t happen. So instead of sitting back and waiting for a miracle to occur, just get out there and find the perfect video game testing job for you.

Head straight to the game companies and developers and apply for testing jobs. Since they aren’t looking for you, the only logical step is to actively search for them. Once you find them (which shouldn’t take too long), apply for a game tester position with them and then repeat the process for as many different companies as humanly possible.

On your application/resume, brag about all of your video game achievements, such as the consoles you own, the games you’ve played, the games you own, the MMORPGs you are apart of, and anything else that shows how much experience you have with video games. And if you want to help your cause even further, create a website/blog that talks about video games, gives reviews, previews, cheats, hints, tips, etc.

You have to remember that experience and professionalism count for a lot in this industry. Therefore, the more experience you have and the more professional you are, the better your chances are for getting a video game tester job.

Step Two: Step Out of Fairy Tale Land and Into Reality

You have to realize that video game testing is a job. Yes, it’s a really fun job, but it is still a job nonetheless. This means that you have to treat it as such and take every part of it seriously. Don’t merely sit down and play the game to have a good time. Sit down and play the game so that you can collect a paycheck when you’re through.

Many “wanna-be” testers believe that being a professional video game tester is a “no work, all play” type of career. Honestly, they couldn’t be more wrong. Although there aren’t huge amounts of work that a game tester must wade through, there are still a few things that he/she has to complete. For instance, filling out reports. Surprised? Well, most aspiring young testers are when they hear that there is actual work involved with video game testing.

Contrary to what you may have thought, you won’t be simply playing games and giving your opinion on whether they are good or not. You will actually be testing them. You will play through a game, find any bugs or glitches, and then fill out reports on any problems that you come across. This is to help the developers and programmers locate and fix those problems. You don’t have to be an English professor or a college graduate to write bug reports, but you will have to have basic writing skills. Aside from the reports, you will also be required to fill out numerous questionnaires; which are typically opinion based.

As soon as you accept the fact that you’ll be doing actual work as a video game tester, you will have much more success finding testing jobs.

Collectible Card Game – Not Always A Kid’s Game

Monday, August 4th, 2008

There is no boy in this world that does not have, or wish to have, a cool collection of baseball cards, cricket cards or soccer cards – depending upon which corner of the world he lives in. The collectible card game is almost an integral part of a boy’s childhood.

Sometimes, the Childhood Collectible Card Game Spills Over into Adulthood

Many times what starts as a boyhood fad, becomes a passion in adulthood. There are instances when men continue their childhood collection throughout their lives. You may know men – and women – who like to collect coins, stamps, baseball. Cricket, soccer cards, scaled-down cars, airplanes miniatures, ship miniatures, army knives, and so on.

The collectible card game started as a trading card game a decade or so ago, which used the popularity of the Pokemon cartoons to promote sales of different children’s items with the help of a collectible card game. This had become an instant success with kids and ever since, there have been many other collectible card games in the market, promoting items for children of all ages.

The Open-handed Rules of the Collectible Card Game

Unlike standard games, the rules here are open to the interpretation of the child, and availability of the cards. They can use the collectible card game to collect cards based on any criteria they feel important. It could be the description of the items contained on the card (baseball star, Pokemon, cricketer, soccer star, etc) and the player will have to collect as many cards as possible cards he or she is able to swap or buy.

Toy stores capitalize on these fads and often arrange ‘tournaments’ and swaps where kids can come and battle it out as to what deals they would like to strike for adding more cards to their collection.

The spill over happens when the collection looks too good to discard. The adult ‘boy’ many times does not like to let go of his childhood memories. Some of them revel in the boyhood fancies because they feel good thinking and reliving their childhood through it.

When this happens, these collectibles get a new emotional dimension and the collection become a precious part of the past. The adult now revels in what he had put together as a boy, and will continue to enhance his collection throughout his life, with the hope that one day he could proudly hand it over to his children and grandchildren.

Rock Band The Game – The Video Game Of All Time

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Ever imagined you were in a rock band? Shredding the air guitar? Banging the drums? Bellowing out the vocals? Well, the time has arrived that you can now do it with Rock Band – The Game. Rock Band The Game is a video game produced by MTV’s Harmonix.

MTV’s Harmonix has come up with the ultimate in music/rhythm gaming. The creators of Guitar Hero has now produced Rock Band The Game and hopefully has it all wrapped up for the holidays. It is designed for your favorite video gaming system. Take your pick – PS2, PS3 and Xbox360.

You can play the game by yourself or get others to join in and play lead guitar, bass, drums or do lead vocals with you. You can have up to four players “jam” with you and play at the same time. What a potential good time!

There are many different levels to Rock Band video game. Congrats to Rock Band’s creators for coming up with such an innovative, multi-layered game. No more sitting on the sidelines for you parents. Now you can play along with your kids as part of the same band! They will look at you in a total different light.

Create your own band logo and then create your own character, complete with multiple avatars that can be set up to play a wide variety of musical instruments. Score high enough and the Rock Band game will advance you to it’s “live” performance level on each instrument or the vocals…this is where you can actually perform your own live solos! Who needs karaoke when you can do it “for real”? Seriously, this game is for the young and old alike.

Judging from the pre-release hysteria, if you plan to jam with your friends and family with Rock Band, you better jump on getting a copy as soon as it’s released. Pre-order sales have already been limited by the manufacturer to only one per household. Best Buy is even offering a sort of Midnight Madness where you can pick up the game as soon as it is released. Amazon says it is available on their website … after Christmas. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. This awesome game will probably sell out in record time.

Harmonix has plans to eventually set up an international, online Rock Band gaming community where you can go to find new band members or just have a jam session. While they’re working on that, get your friends and coworkers to play Rock Band with you. I know one advertising agency has been playing the heck out of Guitar Hero. Rock Band game will take it to a whole new level. They are even designing a week night to play … after work. Talk about bringing comraderie to the work place.

Take it from me. Wire up your gaming system to your home theater system and enjoy the rock concert in your own studio! The Rock Band Game will make a rock star out of you. Who knows? You may be on tour this time next year. Tour meaning your friend’s house, local tavern or maybe even a cruise ship. It can be this popular.

Playing The Game: The Future Of Animation And Game Design

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

The popularity of video games is a staple of our culture and appears as though it’s going to stay. From the different genres of video games to the complex stories and character developments, video games have become an entity that spans generations of gamers. For many, it is an escape into a new world of fantasy and adventure. As a result, it is no wonder why so many high school and college graduates are going into the field of animation and game design. Several colleges offer courses and programs related to learning how to create video games. The video game industry is a growing, multi-billion dollar field and many of the college graduates want to get their hands on the controller.

The increasing demand for more games with better stories and more life-like graphics has been on the minds of serious gamers for years. There is no satisfying the serious gamer because the graphics continue to get better every year and the stories tend to get more interesting, too. Therefore, the video game players expect more every time. This is why colleges are now offering courses in animation and game design. They see the prevalence of video games in our culture and the people who want to build and design these games.

But the programs and courses that deal with animation and game design are not only about drawing and how to create a video game. Creating a game that is both playable and sellable is not an easy task. Basic classes for those who begin in animation and game design deal with topics such as artistic terminology and artistic theory. From there, a student can expect to enter classes in which they generate ideas and concepts for their particular video game. There is also an additional course dealing with presenting your idea to a video game company.

If you decide to go into the field of animation and game design, you can also expect to take some more educationally geared courses. There are some that deal with the history of video games along with other courses that teach the demographic makeup of who plays certain games. You may also be required to do reviews of games and learn about the nuances of the different gaming genres. But success in these classes will inevitably lead to more enticing topics such as artificial intelligence and prototyping your game. For the avid video game player, taking these courses may make the game-playing experience a more interesting one as he thinks about the intricacies of every move made on the screen. For others, however, these courses may serve to only ruin the mystery that they have associated with playing video games.

The field of animation and game design is not, as the name implies, all fun and games. In fact, it is the opposite. There is a lot of hard work that goes into designing these elaborate games. From conception to the store shelves, many experts have contributed something to its success or, consequently, its failure. Learning the techniques of being a successful video game creator is much like learning how to play an instrument. You have to learn note by note, then chord by chord before you can even think about learning how to play a song. That is the same thing with this lucrative field. You can be a gamer your entire life but, other than the occasional game idea, your gaming skills are irrelevant when it comes to creating a game. By completing the animation and game design program, you will see and appreciate where the growth and direction of the animation and gaming industry is headed.

Video Game Voices Give Life To The Game

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Video games have evolved a lot since the first one climbed out of the primordial goo in 1958. The first was actually played on an oscilloscope. Years later, there was Pong and Asteroids. No characters, no talking. These days, however, players demand realism, and you can’t have realism without video game voices, no matter what anyone tells you.

When a character is hit, you can’t expect him to just take it silently. Where’s the fun in that? Whether you are the one being hit or doing the hitting, hearing that “Oomph!” right afterwards is satisfying. It makes you think that something’s at stake. That’s where video game voices come in.

Then, of course, you have to have narrators as well. Between the fight scenes on a lot of games, you have a storyline, and someone has to explain it. Video game voices are about a lot more than just talking crap, although that is a fun part of the whole thing. Can you imagine Muhammad Ali without his famous lines? He would make a great video game character, because he is the kind of person that goes great with video game voices.

Besides, video game voices add a touch of reality to the game. They do this by allowing the player to use more of his senses. We’re not as in tune with the smells around us as we are to sights and sounds, which is why no one has yet invented a viable way to add smell to the experience, though it’s probably coming. But there is something weird and unnatural about people who never say anything. You don’t want people to think that about your characters, so give them video game voices. It will have a dramatic effect on them.

If you use the right video game voices, they will add a lot of personality to your characters. Movie producers have understood the power of the voice for a long time, which is why we no longer watch silent films. It’s much more natural to listen to speech than to read text. Voices stay with you a lot longer than text does. And if text does stay with someone, it’s because it made them hear a voice. The right video game voices will work a lot like commercial jingles in your players’ minds. This will give them a truly memorable experience and call them back to the game again and again.

Playing The Game: Review Of Neil Strauss’s “The Game: Penetrating The Secret Society Of Pickup Artists”

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

A story about a guy who knows next to nothing about girls, then not only meets a secret society of pick-up artists who teach him how to score loads of beautiful women, but also becomes THE master pick-up artist himself, who both his students and his teachers go to for tips on how to deal and score with women. Sounds great, doesn’t it? The best part about it is, It’s true, and documented in Neil Strauss’ excellent book, “The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pick-up Artists.”

If you’ve ever heard of Neil Strauss before, this book provides a fascinating account of what made him Syle, his seduction society pseudonym. And if you have never heard of him, this book will make you WANT to know who he is. Not only does he provide a fascinating look into the many methods of gaining women’s attention—and phone numbers, and panties—but describes in detail the crazy characters who make up this “society of pick-up artists”, as well.

What’s great about this book, as opposed to all the other ones out there for horny guys wanting to get laid, is the way it’s set up. It’s not a lesson-by-lesson tome detailing “forbidden” methods of “tricking” women into going to bed with you. It’s actually more of one man’s personal account of the frustrations and victories of dealing with women. You learn your lessons, as Strauss learns his own. It’s a description of one man’s journey from master loser, to master seductor. And you can benefit from the knowledge Strauss shares, first-hand, in thrilling detail.

It all starts with Strauss’ account of growing up “far from attractive,” and far from satisfied with his sex life. All it took to change that was a call from a book editor, asking Strauss to take the mysterious “Layguide” that existed on the Internet, and turn it into a “coherent how-to book”. Though hesitant at first, Strauss finds himself curious—and you the reader curious, as well. While investigating this patchwork of notes on how to get busy, he finds himself delving into a world he—nor the majority of people out there–hardly knew existed…and becoming one of the biggest parts of it. As he writes, “If the layguide had never crossed my path, I, like most men, would never have evolved in my thinking about the opposite sex.” But thanks to discovering it, Style began his journey of transformation from single loser to a guy commanding thousands for his seduction services and advice.

Along the way, he discovers a host of crazy characters and all their “unique” (to say the least!) methods: Mystery and the Mystery Method; Tyler Durden and Papa, and Real Social Dynamics; David DeAngelo and Double Your Dating; Ross Jeffries and Neurolinguistic Programming. There’s also a range of guys with interesting pseudonyms of their own: Thundercat, Jlaix, Herbal, Jughead. It’s hard not to laugh as you come across some of these crazy characters and their interesting methods of creating attraction: 3-second ATCs, going “kino”, negging. It’s funny enough to hear what these methods are; learning about what they are as revealed by the various characters, makes the book often hysterical.

What I find best about “The Game” is the way it’s described as a journey. As I’ve said before in my posts, life really is a journey, and so is the whole process of becoming a better lover. Style’s way of teaching us his lessons isn’t academic, point-by-point lessons. It’s through describing his growth, and letting you grow (and laugh, and groan) with him. If you want to learn what IOIs, 3-sets, negs, ATCs, and peacocking all are, you don’t have to play “The Game”. Just read it!

About Free Video Download And The 6 Features Of A Good Free Video Download Site.

Friday, July 4th, 2008

It is always a happy moment for some of us when it comes to the end of a Friday. This is because we are going to relax from that excruciating week. I personally chose to relax by watching my favourite video (Music video, movies) or playing a video game. Are you like me or just almost like me?

If yes, you know that it is expensive to pay those video rental fees at your video rental store. Not so?

For years, I faced this same situation until I decided that I should look for an alternative to paying those monthly fees to the video rental store so that I can get to take my favourite movies home every friday. Plus on top of the monthly membership fee, I had to pay per movie/video that I was taking home.

What did I do to get away from this situation? I went to google and typed in “free video download”

I was very happy when my search returned 358,000,000 results. “Wow, that is a great number” I said to myself, not knowing that I was in for the worst experience of my life. Don’t get discouraged here, as this experience has turned out to be the best move I made for my life and entertainment.

With the above number, I thought that there are that number of websites where you can get free video download or some thing related to a free video download.

So given that fact that there are many free video download software programs available to download free music videos and video games online, before you use one of those free video download programs you may want to know what you need to look for.

As I stated above,I have joined many free video download sites and I have got the good and the bad experience about them. So here are the 6 things you should look for in a free video download website.

1- There should be no monthly fees or any per video download fee. If any site claims to offer free video downloads and then asks you for any monthly fee of any sort, I recommend that you steer clear of it. However, the best free video download sites will ask for a one time monthly fee just to help them maintain there services and sources for all these videos for you. That is acceptable. From my experience these are the sites that actually give you the real videos you want of high quality.

2- Quality of the videos downloaded: This is some how related to the above point. From my experience, free video download sites that do not ask for a membership fee usually provide low quality videos, some blurred and the likes. You see the most popular video site youtube, there are many videos, it is free to join but what about the quality of the videos you get?

3-Download limits: There should be no download limits what so ever. Most sites limit the amount of videos you can download per day, some per hour and others per session. These are not good and I would not reccommend that you join them.

4-Your safety and the safety of your computer or machine. What I mean here is that you should be worry of most free video download sites. Most have the capacity to infect your computer with viruses, adware and spy ware. For your security and the safety of your machine, you should stay away from these. How do you know that this site will infect your machine with viruses and adware? That is a million dollar question, but my answer is that look for the recommendation of some one who has been there, seen it and experienced it. I have joined many of such free video download sites and I provide a review at my website as you can see in my resource box.

5-How about the number of videos available for you? I think we would all need the site to have as many videos as possible. It would be no good for you to join a site that has only 10 million videos when you can get one with over 100 videos.Look out for such and it is usually listed at the home page of that website where you get to join and become a member of the website.

6-What is in it for you?: You should ask your self this question. By this I mean the variety you get. While most websites will offer one type of videos such as music videos, others will give you access to music videos, movie videos, video games and other software that you can download. I gues it would not be good and valuable for you to join a site that fearures more variety of services and videos for you than the opposite. That would be the best move.

Well, there are many other things I can talk about here such as the customer support, the download speed and many more. But I hope the above can give you a small hint of what you should look for in a free video download website.

Computer Security: Download, Download, Download!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Be free to install as well as download any patches of software or programs that could help in eliminating the computer virus.

You could also try to religiously follow any of the instructions that you will find in order to manually delete the virus.

Do not rest on your laurels

Do not be easily convinced that once the computer virus has been deleted, the virus is now totally eliminated.

The best way to determine if the virus is completely destroyed is via running a virus scan. If the scan reports that no virus components have been detected, you can now relax.

Un-attach yourself from attachments

Caution must always be practiced once attachments have been received. The file extensions that one should be careful in opening are those that end in *.exe, *.doc, *.ppt or *.xls.

However, those that end in the following extensions such as: *.js, *.vbs should – as much as possible – never be opened.

All in all, every computer is vulnerable to be attacked. What one needs to protect your own PC is caution and preparedness to look towards the future and anticipate any potential attack prior to it happening. This ensures your computer to run as smoothly as it possibly could.

Be updated with current and future security threats now Now that we have discussed the threats to your online security, let’s review and summarize how you can remain informed about potential threats. The Internet and e-mail are amazing resources that everyone utilizes to communicate with each other.

Unfortunately, it is also being used for malicious activities such as scammers that use the e-mail to get money from computer users. Scan your registry for free at http://www.registry-cleaners-reviewed.info Fortunately, there is an easy way to recognize any attempts of scamming that arrive through e-mail.

Knowledge is power and the descriptions indicated below are three of the email scams currently being used by scrupulous individuals. Stay informed and read on.

How To Cheat In A Computer Game

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

The definition of a cheat is pretty easy to figure out. If you have an affair with someone other than your lover, you can be called a cheat. If you copy answers from another person during an exam, you can also be called a cheat. In sports, if you try to win or get an advantage by disregarding the rules you are cheating but in computer games this definition become hard to follow. Taking advantage or lying to your fellow game players does not automatically mean you are cheating.

Cheating in a computer game is defined by the game and the people who are playing it.A lot of computer games come with a “cheat code”. This is usually to help a person get started and makes the game a little easier. They are usually designed for a single player. If you use these cheat codes you are cheating technically but it doesn’t mean you have an advantage.

The most common occurrence of cheating is when there are multiplayer and mass multiplayer games through the internet. In this instance, the players are not known to each other so they don’t have the restrictive influence of being seen by their opponents.

There are two main areas of cheating in computer games. You can change your settings through the use of exploits, bugs and external software or cheesing.

If you alter your computer settings, the layout of the computer’s hardware or the computer game to fit your gaming style you are cheating in a sense and this can be alright. But if you went even further and changed the brightness or the color of the screen in order to see better in shadow areas it becomes questionable.

Exploits are termed as errors in the game itself that give an advantage to one person or another. If someone deliberately uses those it a game, it could be considered cheating but it also could add to the excitement of the game.

There are software programs you can purchase that modify a program that runs computer game. This is a more serious form of cheating. Other software programs study the status of the game through the computer’s RAM

Another form of cheating is called cheesing. This is when the players do things that cannot happen in real life or are not allowed in real life.

The most common of game cheats these days find ways to change the game’s software. Even if the game developers try to encrypt or protect the files, there are software programs that will be able to change the game’s code without changing the main program. Cheats of this kind may be detected using programs that are installed on a server.

Preventing computer game cheaters is not easy. There are a lot of grey areas to agree on and consider before you term someone a cheat.
